About

Courtney Barnes was born and raised on the South side of Chicago. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with minors in Public Policy and Italian from UIC in 2017. Shortly after graduation, she decided to continue her education in the Master of Public Administration program at UIC. As a graduate student at UIC, she is focusing her research efforts around civic engagement issues and issues around race equity. In her time at UIC, she has interned with the McCormick Foundation’s Democracy Program and returned for the second time to Italy to volunteer abroad. Courtney is a member of UIC’s Women in Planning and Public Affairs and the Society of Black Urban Planners, and actively volunteers as a mentor for young girls through Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

In her free time, Courtney enjoys traveling and blogging about her experiences.
