Climate Justice through a Circular Economy Event Follow-Up

In honor of Earth Day 2021, UIC and the Urban Growers Collective (UGC) recently led a two day event on climate justice and the circular economy.

Urban Growers Collective is a Black- and women-led non-profit farm in Chicago, working to build a more just and equitable local food system. They provide hands-on job training and create economic opportunity for youth, beginner BIPOC farmers, and men who are at high risk for gun violence. UGC also cultivates 8 urban farms on 11 acres of land, predominantly located on Chicago’s South Side.

In addition to speakers from UGC, the event also welcomed Maggie Acosta from the UIC Laboratory for Health Justice, Aasia Castañeda from the Chicago Food Policy Action Council, Bweza Itaagi from Grow Greater Englewood, Joe Iosbaker who is the Recycling Coordinator at UIC, and more!

If you missed the event, you can catch up with the recordings from day one and day two.

You can also view the presentation slides from day two of the event.
